No luck

River well up but receding. Had a couple of sessions more in hope than expectation. Surprised to get a little knock first time and half decent bite on the second outing. But didn’t connect. C’est la vie. Roll on spring and the trout season.

And it continues…

I set up just before 3pm on a windless afternoon with a spot of welcome sun. The river had dropped by about another foot and looked enticing. Then I realised I’d forgotten to bring my phone (ie camera), so went to get it. Was this hubris? Would the fishing gods chuckle to themselves and ask […]

Yet more action!

Superb frost-bitten, sparkling winter’s day. Thermometer said minus 4 first thing, but by the time I went down to the river at about 2.30 pm, the temperature had risen to a cosy zero. No breeze and water still reasonably low. Loaded up the feeder with red maggots, with a double on the hook, and had […]

Knock knock

No, it’s not a joke. That is the total amount of action I have had over the past three sessions: two knocks. The fish seem to have done a bunk. But I’ll pop down later this afternoon and see if they have come back…

The fickle Gods of angling…

Well, you can never tell. It was a horrible day – wind gusting strongly from the north-west taking the temperature down to around zero. I wasn’t overly hopeful when I went down at about 2.30 pm. Lobbed a feeder of red maggots into the middle of the river and waited. The wind was causing the […]

Hallelujah!

Hoorah! After many fruitless hours on the bank I have at last had another fish! Went down at about 3pm on a relatively mild (9C) but slightly breezy afternoon. River still nicely in its banks. Put in a couple of casts of feeder with maggot and after about 20 minutes got a decent bite which […]
