Have had a couple of short evening sessions down the river at the bottom of the field with a maggot. The few fish came from three or four feet from the bank. The first fish of the year bent my rod double and took ten minutes to bring in. Not:

And the bonus of a spectacular fiery sunset on the short walk back up the field:
It doesn’t matter where I fish the ubiquitous Gudgeon nearly always makes an appearance.
