Lower Derwent fishing

First outings of the coarse season


Have had a couple of short evening sessions down the river at the bottom of the field with a maggot. The few fish came from three or four feet from the bank. The first fish of the year bent my rod double and took ten minutes to bring in. Not:

A couple of little chub like this:

And a pair of roach of this size:

And the bonus of a spectacular fiery sunset on the short walk back up the field:

  1. It doesn’t matter where I fish the ubiquitous Gudgeon nearly always makes an appearance.



    1. I have a soft spot for them – punch above their weight (although that one didn’t!).
